Emmanuel Riviere’s time on Tyneside could be up, if recent reports are to be believed.

Ligue 1 club Lille have enquired about the availability of the Frenchman, whose tenure at Newcastle has been unimpressive, to say the least.

It is believed that Lille want to sign Riviere on a loan deal until the end of the season, as his current wages are too much to handle for the French outfit.

The 25-year-old striker underwent knee surgery during the summer and is yet to register a single appearance under head coach Steve McClaren.

Since joining the Magpies back in 2014, the former Monaco frontman has scored only one goal in 23 games for the Toon. The arrival of Aleksandar Mitrovic earlier this year meant that Riviere fell even further down the pecking order.

A departure makes sense for both parties, as Riviere barely ever features and his hefty wage packet is not worth paying.
