Daryl Janmaat has been an excellent replacement for Debuchy. He’s younger, he cost half of what we sold Debuchy for and he’s shown that he masters both the attacking and defending sides of a fullback.

Yes, he likes to attack more and yes, he’s had his dips in form, as he does along with the rest of the team currently. But as we all know, form is temporary.

Many times has he been touted to take over the captains armband from Coloccini. He’s a no nonsense defender, but his temper can sometimes get the best of him. Last season (14/15) he played a total of 40 games for NUFC, scored once and assisted 6 times.

So far this season he has 15 apps, 2 goals and 2 assists in all competitions. So despite current lack of form, we know he can be a highly integral player and his spot has never been under scrutiny.

Here’s what Janmaat said during the award seremony.
