Exactly a year ago today, Newcastle United travelled to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the Premier League fresh off the back of a disappointing defeat to West Ham four days previous.

Burnley went into the game in full confidence having gained 7 points from their previous three fixtures and it looked like Sean Dyche’s men were on course for yet another victory when journeyman midfielder George Boyd blasted the hosts in front ten minutes before the half-time whistle.

Alan Pardew’s men responded in the second half however, and the ever-reliable Papiss Cissé restored parity between the sides with a timely finish.

That was exciting as it got as the game petered out, with both clubs seemingly happy with a point.

Fast-forward 12 months and so much, yet so little has changed at Newcastle United. A new manager in the shape of Steve McClaren but the same old problems of player unrest, lack of spirit, and most importantly; the inability to secure three points when badly needed.

Mind you, Papiss Cissé hasn’t changed either – he still scores goals when the occasional decent cross into the area actually arrives. Hopefully he be called upon when Jurgen Klopp’s men arrive at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
