Georginio Wijnaldum, a hugely talented footballer currently playing for Newcastle United. We’re extremely lucky to have him, he’ll be a pivotal player in the years to come. His understanding of the game and how it’s played has earned him seven goals this season. Most of which has come from the left midfield. It takes something special to be so versatile across midfield and still be at the right place at the right time.
Gini recently spoke to a dutch magazine called “PSV Supporter” and he had some great words to say about NUFC:
“United is a great club. And Newcastle United are bigger than many people in the Netherlands think. Only it’s not really gone well in recent years.”
“They had one season run in which they finished in fifth place (in 2011-12) and even played in Europe, but the poor years followed, and Newcastle United have often played near the relegation zone.”
“Yet we are ahead of schedule, and you notice that with the purchases made in the summer.”
“Everybody at Newcastle wants to build within the club to something beautiful.”
Poetic words at the end there by Wijnaldum. Time will prove if it is the case. After the last two games there’s been a bit of a resurgence in the general mood on Tyneside. Strong performances has gone hand in hand with solid wins and Newcastle United need more of them.
Next up is Aston Villa at St. James’ Park. A potential banana peel for NUFC and it would be typical to fall flat of our face due to it, but maybe, if we have turned a corner, we’ll continue in the current direction and rack up a 3rd win against an awfully poor side.
But we all know how quickly it can turn. Two games ago we were 2nd last in the table. Onwards and upwards!
