Newcastle look set to miss out on top striker target Charlie Austin, as the QPR striker is considering a move to another Premier League club.
The Magpies are one of a number of clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old prolific goalscorer, but according to the Northern Echo, Crystal Palace are leading the race.
It is believed that Austin, who was part of QPR’s relegated team last season, wants to play in London, and Palace could be where he ends up.
Newcastle have been linked with Austin for quite some time now, but QPR’s high asking prices have put them off.
However, the Englishman is now valued at approximately £7.5 million and United could finally make an approach.
With Papiss Cisse now out for up to three months with a groin injury, Steve McClaren is reportedly desperate to bolster his attacking options.
The likes of Oumar Niasse, Patrick Bamford and Dwight Gayle have all emerged as possible striker targets.
