With plenty of big-name strikers being linked to Newcastle such as Alexandre Lacazette and Loic Remy in recent days, attention has now turned to Wolfsburg’s Bas Dost.
According to German newspaper Bild, the Magpies have displayed ‘loose’ interest in the Dutchman, who was also a target last summer.
Back in the summer, it was believed that Dost wanted to stay in Germany, but if Bild’s sources are correct, the gigantic striker wants to force through a move away either in this window or the next.
It has been widely reported that the 26-year-old is not too fond of Wolfsburg manager, Dieter Hecking.
As one of our followers, J.J Barton, rightly points out, with Niklas Bendtner reportedly nearing an exit from the German club, Wolfsburg would be reluctant to let him go.
Dost netted 16 times for the German outfit last year, and he currently has seven goals to his name this season.
Dost’s strengths lie in the finishing and aerial departments. This season, he has won an impressive 53% of his aerial duels, as well as registering 14 shots on target in 16 games.
The hefty frontman often acts as the focal point of a team, and he is an expert at holding on to the ball in difficult situations.

In my personal opinion, Dost would prove very difficult to acquire and perhaps isn’t worth the amount of money Wolfsburg would want for his services.
Although his goalscoring record can be deemed as successful, I think Newcastle should pursue other targets like Remy or Austin.
