After a big mid-week result versus Manchester United and the unveiling of two brand new signings, Newcastle United came out of the gates swinging today. £12M man Jonjo Shelvey started in the midfield for the Magpies and controlled the game for 90+ minutes. 6 minutes into the match and Ayoze Perez was set up beautifully outside the box by Wijnaldum and tucked the ball into the bottom corner to put Newcastle up 1-0. 9 minutes later, Wijnaldum scored his 10th goal of the season and St James Park was rocking. West Ham puled one back early in the 2nd half but that would be how the game ended. This was a massive 3 points for the Magpies, who now see themselves out of the bottom 3 (until Swansea play).
