Desperate times are supposed to call for desperate measures. If you witnessed the shambolic game of football that was displayed yesterday, you’d think Newcastle United had absolutely nothing to play for.
They’re sitting in the bottom three of the table, with 21 points to play for and still have a slim shot at survival; instead, they came out with no sense of urgency or desperation. The Magpies aren’t technically relegated but their play on the pitch states otherwise.
Shane Long opened up the scoring for Southampton in the 4th minute and the Saints never looked back. The end result was 3-1 for Southampton and Newcastle are now barely hanging by a thread in their relegation battle.
