Newcastle United look set to miss out on the chance to sign Michael Carrick, a boyhood fan on a free transfer this summer.
Speaking to the Match of the Day magazine, as reported by FourFourTwo, Carrick ruled out a move to the promotion-chasing Championship side.
No, I think that has passed now. When I was a kid I was supporting Newcastle, I dreamt one day I would do but I count myself very fortunate to have played for Manchester United for so long.
The midfielder’s contract is expiring at Old Trafford at the end of the season and with no talk of a renewal, Carrick hinted that retirement could be on the horizon when he eventually leaves Manchester United.
It is just one of those things where you cannot have everything. If and when I finish at Manchester United, that will probably be it I think.
The English international has been influential for the Red Devils over the years since joining from Tottenham{.keyword} in 2006.
The club have recently announced the player is due to play a testimonial match to mark his 11 years with the club.
A Michael Carrick All-Stars team will face off against a Manchester United 2008 XI on Sunday 4 June 2017, with all money raised being donated to charity.
