Centre Back

Defensive improvements have to be made in the transfer window, especially at CB. Hanley will most likely be sold so he will need to be replaced, as well as any other potential exit at the centre-back spot. We are currently linked with Lejeune, however, the transfer seems to be dragging on. If the transfer falls through, Chelsea have a number of centre-backs Newcastle could attempt to sign on loan. Chelsea would be willing to loan out at least one of these players due to their ongoing search in the transfer market for a new, first-team, experienced CB.

Kurt Zouma would be a great signing on loan; the young Frenchman has plenty of experience in the Premier League despite only being 22-years-old. The quick, strong and capable centre-back can also be versatile and play at right-back. Having just recovered from an ACL injury, he is fit and will be ready to get first-team football.

Another option would be Andreas Christensen, who had a superb season at Borussia Mönchengladbach but hasn’t properly experienced English football which may be too much of a risk, especially when we need experienced defensive improvements.
